Abstract

1311625 Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement USINES DECOUFLE 28 July 1971 [3 Aug 1970] 35396/71 Heading A2C Cigarettes, issuing in a continuous line in their axial direction from the cut-off of a continuous-rod machine, are spaced in their direction of travel by an accelerator device which engages each cigarette in succession and which, when engaging a cigarette, has a peripheral speed equal to the feed speed of the cigarette, this peripheral speed increasing gradually up to a maximum predetermined value, whereafter the accelerator device ceases to engage the cigarette before engaging the next cigartte in the line. As diagramatically illustrated in Fig. 1, the accelerator device comprises a plate I bounded by two semi-circular arcs 2, 3 having different diameters. The plate 1 is rotatably driven about its centre 0 by a crankpin 4 carried by another plate 5, the crank-pin 4 engaging a radial solt or groove 6 formed in the plate 1 and being rotatably driven about its centre 0, at a speed in revolutions per minute equal to the number of cigarettes produced per minute. In the constructional embodiment described, Fig. 4 (not shown), two accelerator members engage either side of a cigarette, the two members each comprising a roller having two sectors of frustoconical configuration corresponding to the arcs 2, 3. The parts of the sectors engaging a cigarette, and hence the effective radius of each arc 2, 3, can thus be varied by raising or lowering the rollers so that the minimum accelerator speed can be set to equal the normal feed speed of the cigarette.
