Abstract
1,243,625. Electron beam irradiation apparatus. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd. 28 Oct., 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 34219/67. Heading H1D. An electron permeable window 4 is supported by an array of cooling tubes 3 which may be of oval cross-section. A grid electrode 5 may be provided to divert electrons away from the tubes. A low melting point metal or alloy of good thermal conductivity may be interposed between the window and the tubes and thermal contact further assisted by a grid 1 on the outside of the window. The window is preferably oblong with the cooling tubes connected in parallel to tubular headers along the two longer sides of the window, or the tubes may be connected in series or in a series-parallel combination. The tubes may extend parallel to the longer axis of the window and braced against lateral movement by cross members. The window structure may be built up of modular units with a common cooling system or with partially independent cooling systems. Suitable dimensions for the window structures are given.
