Abstract

1,243,390. Stencils. AMERICAN SCREEN PROCESS EQUIPMENT CO. 8 Oct., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967; 12 Aug., 1968], No. 47669/68. Heading B6C. Stencil fabric 11 is evenly stretched over printing frame 6 by being attached to pneumatically operated stretching frame 1, tensioned by application of compressed air to pneumatic motors in frame member 2, 3, 4 and 5 and fastened to frame 6, e.g. by staples, tacks or adhesive or by rope or cord in a peripheral groove on frame 6. The fabric 11 may be silk, nylon, polyester, polyethylene terephthalate or stainless steel. Each of frame members 2, 3, 4, 5 carries tongues and grooves by which it may be attached to others, either end-to-end or at right angles, to build up a square or elongated frame 6. When compressed air is introduced through inlets 7, 8, 9, 10 the two U-shaped components 13, 14 which make up each member 2, 3, 4, 5 are forced telescopically apart and fabric 11, which is secured on the components 14, is tensioned. Preferably the fabric 11 is secured to the components 14 by jamming of a bar 41 in a groove 25, or by expansion of clamp-loaded insert in a groove.
