Abstract

1,242,636. Catalyst for poly-(alkyleneterephthalates). KANEGAFUCHI BOSEKI K.K. 3 Feb., 1969 [2 Feb., 1968 (2): 23 Feb., 1968], No. 5681/69. Heading C3R. Poly-(alkyleneterephthalates) are produced in the presence of metallic titanium as a polycondensation catalyst from the bis-(hydroxyalkyl) terephthalate ester. The titanium may be used in the form of, e.g. blocks, shavings, ribbons, fine wire or granules, or part of the reaction vessel may be constituted of metallic titanium or an alloy thereof (e.g. with nickel) consisting of at least 75% titanium. The invention is especially applicable in the production of polyethylene terephthalate or a polyalkylene terephthalate wherein the alkylene group has 3 to 6 carbon atoms.
