Abstract

1,241,108. Purification of chlorosilanes. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 4 Sept., 1969 [28 Sept., 1968], No. 43920/69. Heading C1A. Chlorosilanes are purified by the addition of one or more mononuclear and/or polynuclear heterocyclic compounds which contain nitrogen as part of a heterocyclic ring and sulphur as part of, or directly attached to, a heterocyclic ring, and distilling the resulting mixture. The chlorosilane(s) distil off, and the inorganic impurities and the heterocyclic compound(s) remain in the distillation residue. Examples of heterocyclic compounds which can be used containing five - membered rings are thiazole, 2,5-dimethylthiazole, benzothiazole, 2 - mercaptothiazole, 2 - methylmercaptothiazole, 2 - cyclohexylmercaptothiazole, 2 - mercaptothiazoline, rhodanine, thiazolidine - 2,4 - dione, sulphathiazole, 1-2-3- thiodiazole, benzothiodiazole 2 - thiohydantoin, N - methyl - 2 - thioimidazoline and 2- mercaptobenzoxazole. Examples of suitable heterocyclic compounds containing six-membered rings, are 1,4-thiazine, phenothiazine, and the phenothiazine dyes derived therefrom, such as leucomethylene blue, methylene blue and Lauth's violet, thiomorpholine, 2-mercaptopyridine, 2 - thiouracil, 6 - methyl - 2 - thiouracil, thiobarbituric acid, thiodiphenylamine and 6,8 - dichloro - 2 - mercapto - 4 - quinazolinol. Examples of chlorosilanes which can be purified are dichlorosilane, trichlorosilane, tetrachlorosilane and hexachlorodisilane.
