Abstract

1,240,484. Direct coupling. ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 27 Aug., 1969 [28 May, 1968], No. 25576/68. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises an insulating body (formed in two halves 10, 11) and a plurality of screws 14 with cutting inner edges screwed into radially extending holes and socket elements 17 to receive tap-lines being moulded into the body and completely embedded in the body and electrically connected to screws 14. Socket elements 17 are formed in conducting members 13 which provide threaded bores to engage screws 14. The two halves 10, 11 could be assembled in either of two ways about a multi-conductor cable so that the cutting screws 14 may extend either at right angles or at an angle of 180 degrees about each other. Each screw 14 is formed with a plurality of intersecting equi-angularly spaced radial slots 15 which act as cutting edges and the inner end face of each screw may be made concave. Each half may be provided with triangular projections 20 to locate the halves about the cores of the conductor.
