Abstract

1,240,384. Roller work supports. PANDJIRIS WELDMENT CO. 11 April, 1969, No. 18711/69. Heading B3B. A turning roll assembly for supporting and rotating workpieces of different diameters, e.g. for rotating cylindrical tanks for welding circumferential joints, comprises two inner support wheels 40 and two outer support wheels 44, the axis of rotation of the four wheels being parallel and arranged so that the axes of the outer wheels 44 lie in a first plane while the axes of the inner wheels 40 lie in a second plane parallel to and spaced from the first plane. Each wheel 40, 44 is connected to a toothed gear wheel 51, 52 and the gear-wheel 52 of each outer support wheel 44 indirectly engages through idler gears 53 the gear-wheel 51 of the adjacent inner support wheel 40. The gear-wheels 51 of both inner support wheels 40 engages a common drive gear 24. The drive gear 24 is driven by an electric motor through adjustable gearing 17. The wheels 40, 44 include rubber tyres 42, 46.
