Abstract
1,239,993. Tool-setting fixture. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd. 6 Oct., 1969 [19 Oct., 1968], No. 49696/68. Headings B3C and B3T. A fixture for setting the lengths of a drill or milling cutter 20 carried by an adaptor 4, comprises a reference plate 2, an interchangeable bush 3 in the plate, and a block 5 mounted on the plate, a bar 6 movable through the plate by a rack and pinion 7, 8, and a setting plate 17 mounted on the bar. Pinion 8 is carried on a shaft 9 rotatable by a hand-wheel 10, and bar 6 is adapted to be locked in the required position by a member 11, movable into engagement with the rack teeth by a handle 12. A scale 14 on bar 6 is visible through a window 13. A dial gauge 18 is mounted on a block 15 secured to bar 6. Plate 17, which is slidable and rotatable on bar 6, is urged against a collar 16 on the bar. In operation, tool 20 with its adaptor 4, is positioned in bush 3, plate 17 is set to the approximate position as indicated by scale 14 by rack and pinion 7, 8, and a nut 23 is adjusted until the required accurate position is indicated on gauge 18. Bar 6 may be mounted horizontally in which case plate 17 is urged against collar 16 by a spring. So that the cutting edges of drills with pilot ends may be set, holes (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), are provided in plate 17, to allow the pilot to pass. The plate is then indexed and held in the required indexed position by a spring-urged-detent 26, which co-operates with recesses 30 in a bass 31 of plate 17.
