Abstract

1,239,771. Explosive charges. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 11 Sept., 1968 [13 Sept., 1967], No. 43267/68. Heading C1D. An explosive charge having a reduced detonation velocity comprises a sintered homogenous mixture of a granular meltable explosive agent and a gas-containing, porous or voluminous substance, for example hollow phenol or urea resin microspheres, foamed plastics materials or powdered wood or cork. Explosive agents which may be used are trinitrobenzene, trinitrotoluene, trinitroanisole, trinitrocresol, picric acid, trinitrophenetole, trinitroresorcinol, trinitromethylaniline trinitrophloroglucine, hexanitrodiphenyl, hexanitrodiphenyl sulphide, hexanitroazobenzene, hexogen, octogen, tetrayl, cyclotrimethylene trinitrosamine, PETN, and a mixture of ammonium nitrate and a combustible substance. The charge may be sintered by heating almost up to the melting point of the explosive agent or of an added sintering agent which may be another explosive.
