Abstract

1,238,829. Road traffic signals on vehicles; lamp failure indicators. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 19 June, 1970 [20 June, 1969], No. 29814/70. Headings G4F and G4N. [Also in Division H3] A flasher unit for vehicle direction indicator lamps 24, 25 and 26, 27 comprises an astable multivibrator having two emitter-coupled transistors 10, 11, the operating frequency of the multivibrator varying in accordance with the potential applied to the collector of the transistor 10. This potential is made to depend upon the load current taken by the indicator lamps so that if one of a pair 24, 25 or 26, 27 is defective, the fault is indicated by an increase in the operating frequency. Flashing is initiated by actuation of indicator switch 28 and the simultaneous closure of ganged switch contact 22. The transistors 10, 11 become alternately conductive and since the collector of the transistor 10 is coupled through a transistor 37 to a threestage amplifier 32, 34, 35 a relay 31, connected to the amplifier output, is repeatedly energized at the multivibrator frequency to operate contacts 29, 30 and cause flashing of the lamps. The potential applied to the collector of transistor 10 from the positive line U B equals the volt drop across a resistor 17, this resistor together with a resistor 18 and switch 19 constituting a voltage divider. Thus, if switch 19 is closed there is a smaller volt drop across resistor 17 and the potential of the collector of transistor 10 is reduced whereby the multivibrator operating frequency is increased. With reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), there is described how switch 19 is closed upon failure of one of the indicator lamps, the switch 19 and also switch 22 being constituted by semi-conductors. The unit is intended for monolithic integrated circuit construction.
