Abstract

A vehicle signalling system includes a threeposition switch such that in position (1) the flashing direction lights work normally, in position (2) an auxiliary relay causes the lights on both sides to flash simultaneously and the ignition circuit is broken, and in position (3) the ignition circuit is re-made without altering the flashing light connections from the arrangement of position (2). In Fig. 2, with the switch in its normal position current flows from the vehicle battery 21 through flasher unit 24 and terminals 1 and 2 to the direction indicator switch 251. When this is operated to one side or the other the corresponding direction lights 28 or 29 flash, together with repeater 253 or 254 and, if fitted, trailer light via connection 27. At the same time terminals 8 and 9 are bridged to energize the engine ignition coil 26. If the vehicle should break down on the road, the button 11 is rotated to break connections 1-2, 8-9 and thus stop the engine. Current now flows from the battery to terminal 5 to operate an auxiliary relay (electromagnetic or semiconductor) whereby terminal 1 is connected to 3, 4 and 7 to flash all the direction lights simultaneously and also a repeater 281. The engine may be tested by pressing in the button 11, whereby terminals 8 and 9 are bridged without disturbing the other connections. A similar switch unit may be used with a currentindependent double circuit flasher. The construction of the switch unit 20 appears in Fig. 1 (not shown, see Division H1).
