Abstract

1,238,024. Boots &c. AUTOMAGIQUE (CONVEYORS) Ltd. 20 Sept., 1968 [21 Sept., 1967], No. 42909/67. Heading A3B. Apparatus for heat treating footwear e.g. heat setting completed footwear or treating footwear components, includes means for advancing the footwear F at a controlled rate through a chamber 2 in which hot air is circulated and which is maintained at a pre-set temperature and is kept moisture saturated for this temperature. The footwear F is advanced through the chamber 2 on a conveyer 1, flap doors 7 minimising the loss of hot air from the chamber 2. Air is drawn from the chamber 2 through grids 15, over heaters 18, through a fan 19, over an evaporating tray 21 and back into the chamber 2 through nozzles 17. The temperature of the air is controlled by a thermostat 20 and a flap 23 operates a switch 26 to turn off the heaters 18 if the fan 19 fails to circulate air through the system. The evaporating tray 21 is supplied with water by a ball valve 22 and is placed adjacent the heater 18 so that the water boils. The above described heat treating chamber may form part of a system (not shown) consisting of alternate heat treating chambers and connecting chambers and two such systems may be arranged parallel to each other.
