Abstract
1,237,947. Coating wires by hot dipping. ARMCO STEEL CORP. Dec.11, 1968 [Jan.2, 1968], No.58825/68. Heading C7F. Iron or steel wire is coated with e.g. Al, Zn or terne by passing it upwardly through ceramic, inlet and outlet dies 24a, 24b, having, between them, molten metal supplied from a trough 44. The clearance between the wire and the exit die is between 0À010 and 0À040 of an inch. The level of metal in the trough is so arranged that it is about the top surface of the upper die, i.e. from 3/16 below to # of an inch above. The wire is preheated to the temperature of or slightly less than that of the molten coating metal. A protective atmosphere is provided in the entry tube 12 and the wire is finished by supplying gas through apertures 30.
