Abstract

1,237,911. Biocidal complexes containing halogens. DIPENIDAM Ltd. 9 May, 1968 [9 May, 1967], No. 21586/67. Headings A5B and A5E. A disinfectant composition comprises a complex of an ampholytic organo amino sulphonate, a non-ionic surface-active agent, a glycol and a halogen. The halogen may be iodine (preferred), chlorine, bromine or fluorine; and the glycol may be 1,3- or 1,2- propylene glycol or triethylene glycol. Typical surface active agents used are nonyl phenol amino sulphonate (ampholytic) and nonyl or n-octyl phenol ethylene oxide (non-ionic). The complexes do not liberate iodine, even from boiling aqueous solutions, and find application in disinfecting hospitals and animal stalls, pens and kennels, in topical application (solutions or creams) to animals and humans, and in oral application (in feed or water) to animals such as chickens, turkeys and pigs.
