Abstract
1,237,836. Stacking thin sheets of material. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. 27 May, 1969 [31 May, 1968], No. 26632/69. Heading B8C. In an apparatus for stacking horizontal laminations 11, such as are used in electrical machinery and transformer cores, individual laminations are fed by a conveyer belt, not shown, between guide plates 1, I<SP>1</SP> in a feed head and into the nip between driving rollers 2, 2<SP>1</SP> which drive the laminations forward past a guide piece 5 and above three air discharge nozzles 3 which partially float the laminations towards a stack assembly 11 where they are successively trapped by a brake 8, 9 pivoted to the head. When the forward edge of a lamination passes over the guide piece 5, .a limit switch 4 is actuated to close the contact 4a of a relay 15, Fig. 2, which opens contact 15a to de-energize a time delay 16 and which closes a contact 15b which maintains the circuit to a pair of relays 17, 18 as the contact 16a for the time delay 16 subsequently opens. Maintaining the circuit to the relays 17, 18 causes a pair of associated valves 6, 6<SP>1</SP> of a piston and cylinder unit 7, which controls the raising and lowering of the brake lever 8, to retain the latter in its raised position. When the trailing edge of the lamination leaves the switch 4, the contact 15b is opened to break the circuit to the valve relays 17, 18 so that the unit operates in an opposite direction and pushes a shoe 9 on the brake lever 8 down on to the upper surface of the discharged lamination. The contact 16a of the time-lag relay 16, which is now energized; closes after the elapse of a predetermined time to remake the circuit to the relays 17, 18 so that the brake lever 8 is raised out of the path of the next discharged lamination. Should the brake lever 8 fail to return to its uppermost position, a safety switch 10 operates to arrest the feed of laminations to the head 1. When a stack is complete the plate 12 is removed by a crane which holds the plate 14 by trunnions 13, 13<SP>1</SP>.
