Abstract
1,237,753. Liquid phase catalytic reactions. KNAPSACK A.G. 2 Oct., 1968 [18 Nov., 1967], No. 46724/68. Heading B1F. Esterification apparatus comprises removable reactors 4 and 7 &c which contain catalytic ion exchange particles. The apparatus is saturated with alcohol vapour from boiling alcohol-9, and then acid/alcohol mixture is introduced into the column from 8 and the liquid acid/alcohol/ester mixture runs through the reactors 4 and 7 &c and is dehydrated in trap 2 and 5 by distillation while vapours containing water vapour travel up the column and are removed via condenser 12. Ester/ alcohol vapours may be recycled via 15. The methyl, ethyl butyl esters of acrylic acid, the methyl or amyl esters of acetic acid, and ethers may be produced.
