Abstract

1,236,974. Agglomerating dusts. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 9 July, 1968 [12 July, 1967], No. 32748/68. Heading B1C. Apparatus for agglomerating dusts has a rotary drum 16 with inlet 34 and outlet 40, a helical conveying flight 46, a cylindrical array of parallel rods 60 which in operation pass through the middle of the material 36, and fixed spray nozzles 58 which wet the curtain of material falling from the rods. Unagglomerated fines pass through the cylindrical screen 48 and are returned, through the hollow wall 50 by the conveying flight 52, to the inlet end where they re-enter the drum through apertures 54. In modifications there may be more than one coaxial cylindrical array of rods (see Fig. 5, not shown); the rods may be replaced by a cylinder 62 with apertures 64 (see Fig. 4, not shown); and the spray nozzles may be replaced by injection tubes (66) with their outlets in the mass of material. The drum has a variable speed drive and is mounted on a plate 12 the inclination of which is adjustable by a jack 14.
