Abstract

1,236,398. Windscreen cleaning systems. TRICO-FOLBERTH Ltd. 30 Aug., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967 (2)], Nos. 48180/70 and 48181/70. Divided out of 1,236,397. Heading A4F. A windscreen cleaning system comprises a pump 21 for passing cleaning liquid from a reservoir 204 to a nozzle or nozzles, an electric motor 20 for driving the pump, and a rotary electric switch driven by the motor 20 and arranged to switch the motor off after it has been running for a predetermined period. The rotary switch comprises a disc 24 of insulating material carrying conducting arcuate and circular conducting elements 26, 27, respectively. In the rest position a brush contact 29 connected to the washer motor 20 lies in a gap in the element 26, and the motor 20 is stanted by actuating a push button switch 33. The rotary switch then turns so that the washer motor circuit is completed to earth via brush 29, element 26, and a further brush contact 28, and the push button switch 33 may be released so that the motor 20 continues to be energized for one complete revolution after which the brush contact 29 again registers with the gap in the element 26. During rotation of the switch delivery of liquid to the nozzle or nozzles is rendered intermittent by the repeated opening and closing of a valve 22 by a multi-lobe cam 23 formed on the disc 24. In the rest position of the switch terminals B and R of a windscreen wiper motor 16 are connected together via brush contacts 30, 31 and a switch 17, if the latter is set in the "parking position", and the motor 16 is stopped with the wipers parked. On movement of the disc 24 the terminal R is connected to earth via contacts 30 and 32 and the motor 16 will run for a complete revolution of the disc 24. In an alternative embodiment the wiper motor is switched on and off to produce a succession of cycles of wiper operation separated by periods of rest; and in a further embodiment a differently arranged rotary switch controls the energization of the washer and wiper motors from a single battery.
