1236300 Releasable fastenings P L PORTER CO 15 Dec 1969 [1 Aug 1969] 61069/69 Index F2S 31 A adjustable hydraulic stay comprises a cylinder 10 containing a piston 14 which divides the cylinder into two locking chambers 15, 16 a ball valve 20 in the piston liftable through hollow piston rod 12 by a push-rod 26 having a projecting end 32, and a radial port 86 allowing flow between a reservoir 37 and the locking chamber 15 when the stay is in its contracted condition but which is cut off by a seal 42 to isolate the two chambers 15, 16 when in an extended position. The chamber 15 is reduced to zero volume, as shown, in the contracted condition. An external spring 18 applies an extending force, and a gland 34 loaded by spring 39 pressurizes the reservoir 37. A stop-disc 46 having fingers 48 guided in axial slots 88 selectively engaging steps 115 in openings 94 in an adjustable ring 50, serves to limit the stroke. The unit is secured to a bulkhead 51 by nuts 53, 54. The end of the piston rod is guided by seal 65. A window 114 reveals the stop setting.
