A method of enclosing an article in a container, comprises the steps of inserting the article 32 through an opening in a sheath 31, and heat-sealing a cap 33 of a plastics material to the rim 35 of the sheath around the opening, the seal surface of the cap prior to the sealing step being roughened by means of irradiation by ultra-violet rays, corona discharge, or application of superheated steam. As described, the temperature of the steam is between 110‹ and 120‹ C. and the cap is a laminate of a polycarbonate film and a heat-sealable polyolefin film which can be polyethylene, the latter being the film which is roughened before sealing.
