Abstract

1,234,889. Gear pump assemblies. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Oct.29, 1969, No. 52893/69. Heading F1F. A gear pump assembly including two simultaneously operable pumps suitable for use in an I.C. engine to pump oil from the engine oil pan to a tank and then from the tank to lubricate the engine, comprises a rotary internally-meshing N and N+1 lobe type pump having an inner rotor 14, Fig, 1, with, external lobes 18 and an outer rotor 16 with internal lobes 19 and external teeth 17 which mesh with teeth on a gear 10 mounted on the engine crankshaft 11 to constitute a gear pump which sucks oil up from the pan through an inlet passage 20 and discharges it through an outlet passage 21 to the tank. Oil from the tank passes to the rotary internally-meshing pump through an inlet chamber 23 and is discharged therefrom through an outlet chamber 24. A bleed passage (not shown) may connect the outlet chamber 24 to the inlet passage 20 of the gear pump to prime the gear pump on engine starting,
