Abstract

1,234,877. Sintered aluminium alloys. KARL SCHMIDT G.m.b.H. April 25, 1969 [May 4, 1968], No.21286/69. Headings C7A and C7D. An Al alloy for parts subjected to friction consists, by weight, of Si 0À5-12% Pb 4-15% Cu 0-6% Al balance (apart from impurities), and is produced by sintering a powder mixture in which the powder comprising Al is coarser than the powders comprising the other elements. In modifications of the composition (a) the powder comprising Pb also includes up to 10% Sn and/or up to 5% In, Cd, Sb or Cu, the total addition not exceeding 15% of the Pb content, and (b) the Si is partly or wholly replaced by 0À5-3% Al 2 O 3 . In the example, ribbons are made by (1) cold pressing at 2 metric tons/sq. cm., (2) sintering at 390‹C., and (3) extruding at 390‹C. Rolling is an alternative to extruding. Uses Bearings without an overlay, or an overlay for bearings consisting of several layers.
