Bright hard silver electro-plating is produced by deposition from an aqueous bath containing an electrolyzable silver compound such as potassium silver cyanide, a complex forming agent and a salt of antimony or bismuth together with a salt of iron, cobalt, nickel or potassium with a sulphonated non-saturated aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acid. Typically the bath contains in addition to the silver salt free potassium cyanide, potassium antimonyl tartrate, potassium or nickel sulphoricinoleate and triethanolamine, ethylene glycol or sodium potassium tartrate. The bath may also contain a selenium compound such as sodium selenite supplied dissolved in potassium sulphoricinoleate.
