Abstract

1,232,838. 3 - Amino - 5 - mercapto 1,2,4- triazoles. ILFORD Ltd. 5 Dec., 1969 [5 Dec., 1968], No. 57891/68. Heading C2C. 3 - Amino - 5 - mercapto - 1,2,4 - triazole, or an N-alkylated derivative thereof, is obtained by reacting a solution of a compound of the formula or a salt thereof, wherein two of R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are hydrogen atoms and the other is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, in an organic solvent, with carbon disulphide at above 30‹ C. in the presence of a non-aqueous base, and heating the solution until hydrogen-sulphide evolution ceases, the reaction medium being anhydrous at least until the triazole-isolation stage.
