Novel virostatically active 5-ethyl-uracil derivatives of the general formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom, a straight or branched chain C 1-4 alkyl group or an optionally substituted aryl or aralkyl group, R 2 is a straight or branched chain C 3-6 alkenyl group and X is a hydrogen or halogen atom, which are virostatically active, are prepared by reaction of a uracil derivative of the general formula with an alkenyl halide of the general formula R 2 -Hal, wherein Hal is a halogen atom, in the presence of an acid acceptor.
