Abstract

1,232,406. Electrophotographic member. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. 29 Aug., 1968 [1 Sept., 1967], No. 41250/68. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic recording member comprising a paper base which is resistant to the penetration of organic solvents having applied thereto a photoconductive layer comprising finely-divided inorganic photoconductive pigment particles dispersed in a solvent system containing a resin binder containing up to 0À2 wt. per cent of the coating solution of hydrophobic silica to provide a glare-free recording surface of surface roughness from 100 to 250 Sheffield units and a gloss (75‹ Gardner) not in excess of 10%. The paper base preferably has a surface of roughness from 55 to 250 Sheffield units. The paper base may be provided with a solvent barrier by coating it with P. V.A., starch, casein, animal glue, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, styrene-butadiene latex, acrylic latex, P.T.F.E. or algin. Bleached sulphite paper is used as the base whilst the photoconductive layer is ZnO dispersed in a mixture of toluene and methyl ethyl ketone together with copolystyrene-butadiene, copolyvinyl chloride/ acetate, polyester, polyvinyl acetate or an acrylic, phenoxy, or silicone resin.
