Abstract

123,199. Earl, A. R. March 11, 1918. Securing spokes to hubs; felloe-joints, forms of. -In a wheel in which the spokes are forced into the built-up felloe. the spoke-tenons extend only partially into the felloes, the joints of the latter being alternately oppositely inclined as shown. The inner ends of the spokes, which may be parallel-sided, tapered, or dovetailed, are morticed into the wooden hub H which is turned with an outstanding portion M and stepped front and back portions. The feet of the spokes and the tenon-shoulders, as well as the corresponding hub seatings, are tapered so that, as the spokes are pressed into position to be secured between the flanges O, N, the outer ends are forced home in the felloes. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and continuous rubber and like cushions.-A. rubber or like ring R may be fitted between the metal tyre T and the wooden felloe.
