Abstract

1,231,193. Sleeve couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 23 May, 1968 [8 June, 1967], No. 26492/67. Heading H2E. A channel-type insulated wire-jointing clip comprises a raised anvil formed at each end of the base of the channel such that when the clip is crimped to interconnect two wires, the free end of each wire will be automatically trimmed, short of the end of the insulation of the clip. A portion of a connector clip prior to the crimping operation is shown, the clip 1 having sharp edged protuberances 4 serving to pierce the insulation of wires A, B and being accommodated in a length 5 of extruded channel of insulating material. The depressions or cut-out windows 1e and complementary projecting ridges If serve to minimize spring-back of the channel walls after crimping and also assist in electrical connection. A bent-over strip 1d of each side wall forms a sharp-edged anvil 1g, the adjacent end of the remaining length of side wall forming a guillotine knife edge lh with a short length of the wall 1i joggled inwardly to produce a more effective cutting action. Modified forms of the anvil are described (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown).
