Annealing; hardening; tempering; casehardening. - A container for handling metal articles during heat - treatment in baths of molten sodium cyanide, barium chloride, sodium chloride, lead, or other material, comprises a c a s t perforated basket 1 made of a refractory alloy of low conductivity and of such bulk as to retain a large amount of residual heat. The basket may be formed with internal vertical ribs, and is supported in a ring 5 at the end of a handle 7. If the articles to be treated are oily or dirty they are preferably allowed to stand in the highly heated basket in order to drive off oil and water before immersion in the bath.
