In a device for igniting and supervising gasheated appliances which comprises a burner, an igniter 13 and a thermocouple element 15 which is connected to a thermoelectric ignition safety device, the respective housings 11, 12, 14, whose axes are coplanar, for these elements form part of a one-piece carrying plate 10 having a flanged periphery 16 and at least two peripheral fixing members, while the ends of the curved tube 26 subtend an angle of 90 degrees at its centre of curvature and the outlet end 36 of this tube serves as an earth electrode for the igniter, the head 37 of the thermocouple element being arranged such that with the gas at its maximum pressure, only the point of the flame from the ignition tube strikes the head 37. As shown, the coplanar axes of the housings 11, 12, 14 are perpendicular to the plane of the carrying plate, and the outlet end of the ignition tube is surrounded by a combustion chamber 28 arranged so that edge 36 of the ignition tube is nearer to the igniter than is the corresponding edge of the combustion chamber.
