Abstract

1,227,808. Cabinet convertible to steps. R. W. SPONG and L. G. SPONG. 19 Sept., 1969 [21 Sept., 1968], No. 44991/68. Heading A4H. A cabinet which may be used as a seat or table, comprises an upper storage compartment, e.g. for shoe cleaning equipment, provided with a forwardly and upwardly sloping front wall f and a rear hinged top lid b; and a lower slidable step or foot rest c withdrawable from the cabinet so as to provide a pair of steps. The step c includes a spring l and catch m so that when the withdrawn step is pressed rearwardly it is retained in the retracted position by the catch, but a second press rearwardly releases the catch m and allows the spring l to push the step to the withdrawn position. The step c slides in channels k in the cabinet. Step c may also comprise a storage compartment with a hinged top lid. The top surfaces of lid b and platform i of the step c may be covered with vinyl backed with felt.
