A spring assembly consists of a stack of plates 1, Fig. 1, each having a polygonal outline and a two-way curved surface as shown, each plate (except for the end ones) being secured by one pair of opposite edges to one adjacent plate and a different pair of opposite edges to the other adjacent plate. In Fig. 2, such an assembly is located between a piston 8 and the base of a cylinder 5. The spring may be damped by liquid in the cylinder. There may be grooves in the spring's plates to facilitate flow of the damping medium into the spaces between adjacent plates.
