Abstract

1,150,394. Hydraulic shock absorbers. C. U. PEDDINGHAUS. 24 Jan., 1968 [27 Jan., 1967], No. 3713/68. Heading F2S. Flow through apertures 6 in the piston head 1 of a piston-cylinder shock absorber is controlled by one or more valves 7 each consisting of an initially flat resilient plate or strip engaging a spacer member 12 by which the unstressed flat plate would be maintained spaced from the piston face adjacent the aperture 6. However, a clamping member 8 has a portion 13 which engages the plate between the spacer and the aperture and distorts it into an aperture closing position (as in the case of the lower valve shown) or partly closing position (as in the case of the upper valve shown). The or each valve element may be a strip restrained against rotation in the plane of the piston face or, if a plurality of apertures are arranged around the piston, a disc with a corresponding plurality of radial limbs may be used, each limb constituting the valve element for one aperture.
