Abstract
1,226,268. Thermal regenerators. GENERAL REFRACTORIES Ltd. 23 Feb., 1970 [21 June, 1969], No. 31474/69. Heading F4K. In a regenerator chamber 1 comprising a checkerwork area 6 supported above the floor 2 by a number of spaced, parallel vertical support walls 7, and an air inlet and waste gas outlet opening 4a, the base of the chequer area is stepped to provide therebelow a space which converges away from the air inlet/waste gas outlet opening 4a. The top of each support wall 7 which is likewise stepped comprises courses of cross-chequer bricks 8, 10 spaced by filler bricks 9 and a final course of longer cross-chequer bricks 11 which bridge adjacent support walls; the bricks 11 are spaced apart by filler bricks 12 having curved sides. The or each support wall 7 in line with the inlet/exit opening 4a stops short of the regenerator wall 3 at its base but meets the wall higher up (see Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). The opening 4a leads to a flue 4 which in turn leads to an air valve and a chimney.
