A deck of a distillation or like column comprises one or more sections such as 20 releasably clamped to an adjacent section or as shown to an annular supporting member 25 by means of a number of clamping devices, each comprising a bolt with a head 33 at one end and a latch 34 at the other rotatably mounted in a guide 32 secured to the underside of the section 20 and a spring 35 between the head 33 and the upper surface of the section 20, the latch 34 being rotatable into and out of securing engagement with the ring 25 by use of a tool acting on the head 33. A resilient gasket 37 may be interposed between ring 25 and the section 20 as shown.
