Abstract

1,006,101. Manhole cover assemblies. H. ZEISING. June 6, 1962 [June 6, 1961], No. 21938/62. Heading E1G. A manhole cover and the seating surface of a supporting frame are formed with at least one tapered projection on one engaging in a corresponding number of tapered recesses in the other, the or each projection having a different angle of taper from that of its associated recess and being of such a size relative to the recess that surface engagement therewith is restricted and a space is left at the bottom of the recess. A plurality of projections c and d, Fig. 21, forming recesses, with different angles of taper α and #, between them may be uniformly distributed about the rim of the cover and the seating surface. The projections may be truncated cones or pyramids or of truncated triangular vertical section, Fig. 11. They may be arranged in two staggered rows, Fig. 4. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 18, a single continuous web L on the cover engages in a recess in the frame (not shown).
