Abstract

[Also in Division A5] A method for impregnating paper or board with a bactericidal and/or fungicidal composition comprises adding to the wet end of a paper or board machine at a point where the stock consistency exceeds 2.5% a bactericidal and/or fungicidal composition comprising an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of dichlorophen, an acid and a polar organic solvent. Acids specified are sulphuric acid, acetic acid and citric acid whilst the polar organic solvent may be isopropanol, acetone, ethyl alcohol or methyl ethyl ketone.
