Abstract
1223577 Dyeing yarns SINGER-COBBLE Ltd 25 Sept 1969 [22 Oct 1968] 50061/68 Headings B6C and C60 Yarn is passed between at least one pair of opposed rolls, at least one of which carries a dye, both rolls being repeatedly moved together by pivotal or.linear movement to form a temporary nip so as to dye the yarn intermittently. Each pair may comprise a backing roll having a highly absorbent contacting surface and an applicator roll having a contacting surface of rubber of shore hardness 60 degrees. As shown, rolls 11 and 12 are mounted on arms 17 and 23, each of which is pivotable about axes 18 and 24 respectively by hydraulic means 16. A plurality of groups of pairs of rolls may be provided, Fig.2 (not shown), each group applying a particular dye and being mounted on a common pivot shaft (30) through the axis 18, one end of said shaft being mounted on a slideable block (36), the other being held in position by a displaceable plug (43). The yarn may be tensioned at the inpact end of the device by pneumatically operated, vertically moveable bars (54, Fig.2) or alternatively, by two parallel rolls (60 and 61), Fig.4 (not shown), each of which carries a gear wheel (63) meshing with the other and the lower of which carries an electromagnetic clutch coupling (65) to provide a torque in the opposite direction to that in which the yarn moves.
