Abstract

1,223,087. Steroid 21-esters. PHARMA CHEMIE. 6 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 28708/69. Heading C2U. The invention comprises the 21-[4-(N-methylacetamido)-benzoates] of 21-hydroxy steroids of the pregnane, 4-pregnene and 1,4-pregnadiene series, and their preparation by reacting the appropriate acyl chloride with the appropriate 21-hydroxy steroids, e.g. prednisolone, triamcinolone, betamethasone, prednisone and dexamethasone. 4 - (N - methylacetamido) - benzoyl chloride is prepared by reacting 4-(N-methylacetamido)- benzoic acid with thionyl chloride. The inventive steroids are stated to possess antiphlogistic, antianaphylactic and corticoid activity, and may be made up with carriers into pharmaceutical compositions for oral, parenteral, rectal and topical administration.
