Abstract

1,221,950. Metal-bitumen laminates. BOSTIK Ltd. 4 March, 1968 [3 March, 1969], No. 23829/70. Addition to 1,221,948. Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] Sound deadening material comprises a filled bituminous sheet having on one side thereof a coating of an adhesive composition which is not tacky at room temperature but which can be activated by heat to bond the sheet to a metal panel the coating being provided by deposition of material from an aqueous emulsion comprising rubber latex and wax. The preferred sheet material is described and claimed in the (Specification 1,221,948), i.e. a sheet of composition comprising bitumen, filler, synthetic hydrocarbon rubber and polystyrene, the rubber being present between 10% and 70% of the bitumen, the filler not less than 4 x the weight of bitumen and the polystyrene between 2% and 40% of the bitumen. The rubber may be butadienestyrene copolymer, butyl rubber, polybutadiene, polybutene or polyisobutylene. The filler may be whiting, ground limestone, barytes, silica. The adhesive composition may be deposited by spraying. Adhesive compositions exemplified comprises (i) an aqueous emulsion formed from a natural rubber latex, clay, aqueous carnauba wax emulsion, stabilized alkaline casein solution, and colouring matter and (ii) an aqueous emulsion formed from natural rubber latex, aqueous emulsion of oxidized wood rosin, aqueous carnauba wax emulsion, white colouring matter. The sheets are bonded to steel plates.
