Abstract

1,221,859. Portion forming and bagging apparatus. A.M.F. Inc. 27 Sept., 1968 [27 Oct., 1967], No. 45992/68. Heading B8C. [Also in Division G1] Small pieces of material are formed into portions of predetermined weight and these portions are transferred individually into bags. Portion forming apparatus.-The material is stored in a hopper 12 which can be vibrated by vibrator 28. The hopper is divided by vertical baffles so that the flow to outlet 44, when the hopper is vibrated, remains substantially independent of the amount of material in the hopper. Outlet 44 can be closed by a gate 74. A scale pan 106 is mounted below outlet 40 and is arranged so that when the desired weight is reached a switch is actuated and gate 74 is closed by a solenoid and vibration of the hopper is stopped. Bag filling apparatus.-The operating sequence is controlled from motor 122 and gearbox 124 which drive conveyer 224 which carries the filled bags 144 in holders 230 and also drives arm 132 via a crank. When the scale pan 106 is filled to the correct weight and the switch 88 is actuated, air blast unit 180 is actuated to blow open the end bag hanging on supports 206, 208 and held in place by spring-biased members 214, 216. Motor 122 is also actuated and rotates the crank to move arm 132 downwards and tip up the scale pan 106, emptying the portion of material into funnel 156 and thence into bag 144. As the arm 132 moves downwards it moves the funnel 156, which has a sliding mounting with it and forces arm 166 which is pivoted on an arm attached to the funnel and attached to pinion 174 to rotate and force material from the funnel into the bag. When the bag has been located in the carrier 230, the conveyer is moved up by one step so that the next carrier is positioned ready for the next bag.
