Abstract

1,221,033. Tubular heat exchangers. RESPAR A.S. 22 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 36724/69. Heading F4S. A battery of finned heat exchange tube elements 15 over which passes a fan-assisted gas stream, is mounted in a frame 16 and is arranged so that the tubes can be readily removed, e.g. for servicing. The elements 15 shown have at each end a transverse fluid passage 20 formed in a head portion 19. The elements are assembled with the respective head portions in abutment and are clamped together in the frame using screws 27 and blanking-off plugs 23, 24. Sealing between adjacent head portions is by a spigot and socket joint 21, 25 and the passages 20 define headers to which the tube-side fluid is admitted and discharged by way of connections 13, 14. Water or oil may circulate through the tubes to heat or cool a gas such as air. The invention is intended for the cooling of scavenging air for a diesel engine.
