Abstract

1,219,902. Shock absorbers. B.T.R. REINFORCED PLASTICS Ltd. 17 April, 1968 [29 April, 1967], No. 19851/67. Heading F2S. A shock absorber, e.g. for supporting heavy loads against shock during transport, includes an elastomeric (rubber or polyurethane) shockabsorbing member in combination with an hydraulic damper. The damper consists of two liquid-filled chambers 10, 13 interconnected by a constricted passage or neck 12, the chambers and the neck being bounded by a suitably shaped thin sheet 11 of elastically deformable material, the sheet not being thick enough to provide in itself a significant shock-absorbing effect. The shock-absorbing elastomeric material is constituted by the much thicker-walled members 1 and 5 surrounding the damper. When a force is applied to the plate 2, it deforms the elastomeric shock-absorbing member 1 and also transmits force through the member 5 to the damper, causing flow of liquid between its chambers 13 and 10 by way of the neck 12.
