Abstract

1,218,261. Compensating for deformation of machine parts. SCHIESS A.G. 23 Aug., 1968 [1 Sept., 1967], No. 40402/68. Heading B3B. In a machine tool such as a vertical turret lathe in which a tool carriage is supported on at least one guide bar which is secured to a beam type support on the machine frame, means is provided to adjust the guide bar relative to the beam to compensate for localized deformation of the guide bar due to the carriage loading. Alternative forms of adjustment means are described which include co-operating bush members 15 and 17 locatable in the beam 13 and guide bar 11 respectively and being relatively movable by a bolt 19, the bush members having co-operating tapered flat surfaces 16 and 18 whereby turning of the bolt 19 effects axial movement of the bush member 15 relative to the beam and member 17 whereby the guide bar is raised or lowered. A similar embodiment is described with respect to Fig. 6 (not shown). In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5 adjustment of the guide for 11 is effected by a screw 23 in the beam 13 which is at right angles to and engageable with a pin 22 in the guide bar 11. In the further embodiment shown in Fig. 7 adjustment is effected by an eccentric bush 28 in the guide bar mounted on a bolt 27 in the beam the rotation of the eccentric bush 28 within a support bush 30 in the bar effecting adjustment of the bar. After adjustment the bar is clamped to the beam by bolts 12.
