Abstract

1,218,009. Synthetic filament webs. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 23 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 31594/69. Heading D1R. A non-woven matted web 16 is produced by drawing off a set of synthetic filaments 3 from spinnerets 2 or the like by means of a gas jet 8 and depositing them on a support 15. The gas jet 8 emerges from a slot nozzle 6 in a wall 5 inclined at an angle of 50-75‹ to the wall from pressure chamber 7 at a supersonic flow velocity and is deflected about the sharp edge 9 to flow down along the face of wall 5. The set of synthetic filaments 3 enter the jet 8 in the region where it is deflected. A secondary gas flow may be provided by arranging a plate 13 opposite the wall 5 so that the outer filaments are drawn in towards the centre of the set. A spacer 10 may be used to align the filaments so that they enter the jet 8 in the centre plane thereof and may be in the form of a tensioned wire or an endless rotating wire. The filaments 3 are carried along by the jet 8 and deposited on the support 15.
