Abstract

1,216,436. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP 8 April, 1969 [13 April 1968], No. 17754/69; Heading H1D. In a colour television tube of the type wherein three co-planar electron beams B B , B R , B G follow divergent paths from a common focusing lens (not shown) and are converged on the apertures of a grid or shadow mask by means of two pairs of deflection plates PP<SP>1</SP> and QQ<SP>1</SP>, the latter are disposed near a magnetic deflection yoke to allow the tube neck to be made shorter; as a result the deflecting fields induce currents in the inner pair of plates PP<SP>1</SP> which affect the centre beam B G , and this is compensated for by making the plates Q and Q<SP>1</SP> provide unequal deflections. In Fig. 4 the distance d between P and Q is larger than the distance d<SP>1</SP> between P<SP>1</SP> and Q<SP>1</SP> so that the beam B R has a greater convergence deflection than beam B B . In another arrangement (Fig. 5, not shown) the axial length of the plate Q<SP>1</SP> is greater than that of Q.
