Abstract

[Also in Divisions B1 and F2] A valve, which is designed for use in a draft beer dispensing system between the barrel to which pressurized gas is supplied and the dispensing tap Figs.5 and 6 (not shown), and which is adapted to minimize foaming in the dispensed beer by removing the pressurizing gas from the beer passing to the tap, includes a float 46 which carries a valve closure member 44 and is movable upwardly and downwardly along a guide 41 in response to the presence and absence respectively of beer within the valve housing 12, total absence of beer in the housing resulting in the closure member 44 firmly engaging its seat, and hence preventing gas entering the outlet line leading to the tap. To re-start the flow of beer, or upon the gas pressure exceeding a predetermined limit, a manually-operable relief valve 36 is actuated. Cleaning of the dispensing system can be effected by manual actuation of an outwardly spring-biased rod which normally abuts the valve member when the same is seated, but can raise the member from its seatings to permit the gas to pass from the housing to the tap.
