Abstract

[Also in Division G1] Apparatus for correcting the position of a railway track in the track plane comprises a wheeled chassis 1 with track shifting means 5 disposed at its longitudinal centre, front and rear trucks 8, 6 rigidly coupled to the wheeled chassis, a long chord 9 extending between the trucks 6 and 8, a short chord 10 extending between the rear truck 6 and the shifting means position 5 and measuring means at position M for comparing the deflection of the two chords. The apparatus can be used for correcting the position of straight or curved track and with adjusting means operating in response to distance travelled by the machine for correcting transitions between straight and curved track or vice versa. The measuring device includes a pair of potentiometers 14, 15 with sliders movable in dependance on the position of the chords 9 and 10. The output of the potentiometers is compared in meter 18 and the track at position 5 with the end of the short chord moved to obtain a predetermined measured relationship depending on the radius of track curvature. The adjusting means for correcting transition curves includes potentiometers 19, 20 and potentiometer 22 having a slider which is moved by cam wheel 27 as the machine moves into the curve. The means adjust the voltage supplied from potentiometer 14 associated with the long reference chord 9. Assume a move from straight track to curved track potentiometer 19 is set to zero and potentiometer 20 to a value which is a function of the chord deflection in the track curve. The cam 27 is set with point B in contact with the piston 26 connected to the slider of potentiometer 22 and as the machine moves into the curve the cam rotates moving the slider of potentiometer 22 from its zero position, giving no adjustment, to its other end position, when the curve proper is reached, giving the full voltage from potentiometer 20.
