Abstract

1,215,553. Self-contained sewage systems. KOEHLER-DAYTON Inc. 6 Feb., 1968 [24 March, 1967], No. 5850/68. Heading B7B. [Also in Division E1] A self-contained sewage system for buses, railway passenger carriages, and aircraft, comprises a tank 10 rotation- or blow-moulded from polyethylene, in one piece and of constant wall thickness, and having a flush bowl 20 extending by its spout 132 thereinto, and a reinforcing bridge 18 of moulded plastics or metal, disposed around the outside of the tank 10 (or moulded partially or entirely within the tank) and comprising a plate 100 fastened to a shoulder 102 of the top 17 of the tank and to the flange 107 of the bowl 20, two sides 110 connected by horizontal flanges to the plate 100, and a cross member 120 tying the sides 110 together. Reinforcing indentations e.g. 42 are provided in the ends 13 14, sides 11 and (12) and top 15 of the tank 10, and are formed in the bridge sides 110 to mate with some of those in the sides 11 and (12). In use, a pumpmotor unit 21, controlled by a timer 22 actuated by an operator, draws flushing liquid (filling the tank to a preset level) through a filter 127 and supplies it via conduit 128 to the bowl manifold 129 and then into the tank via spout 132. The system is emptied by connecting a service vehicle to a discharge conduit 125 and raising a valve member 76 from its seat by means of a spring device and of a cable 90 connected to a remote actuator, so as to drain the tank 10, and then flushing the tank 10 out with fresh liquid supplied to a tube 25. Tie-down rods 31 are pivoted to brackets 32 on a support surface 28, and are secured by nuts 38 against a cross member secured to the tank.
