Abstract

1,214,865. Micro-hardness testing machine. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. April 4, 1968 [April 7, 1967], No. 16172/68. Heading G1S. The sample 1 to be tested at various points in a circle 4 on its surface, see Fig. 1, (not shown) is heated by wires 2, 3 and may be moved in a circle without itself rotating by means of two carriages 5, 17 sliding respectively on guides 6, 16. An electric motor 18 rotates gears 28 and a shaft 20 in a stepwise manner so that a pin 21 eccentrically mounted with respect to the shaft 20 and rotatable in a block 22 can give the compound movement to the carriages 5, 17 necessary to move the sample 1 in a circle beneath an indentor. The block 22 is integral with a slide 12 movable in holes 13, 14 in lugs 15, forming part of the carriage 5, so that when the shaft 20 rotates the eccentric pin 21 the block 22 reacts against the slider 12 which is held with its end 10 against the fixed stop 8, thus moving the carriages 5, 17 to give a circular path to the sample. The end 10 is held against the stop 8 by pull on a cord 7, this pull being insufficient however to resist the movement of the block 22 by motor 18. The cords 7 attached to an electric motor (not shown) are also used to pull the carriages between the buffer station 8, 9 which define respectively the place where indentations are made and the place where they are measured. A detector 19 monitors the angular position of shaft 20 and delivers this information to a control unit via electric wires which unroll along the guideway 6. When the operator is informed via the detector that the shaft 20 has rotated to a desired position he can stop the shaft by operating a disc brake 30.
